Birth Can Be Empowering

No one will prepare, support, and nurture your birth journey like a MAMA midwife.

Welcome to MAMA Midwifery

Midwifery-led care and continuity of maternity care provider have been proven to improve outcomes for pregnancy, birth and early postnatal period.

These include:

  • Lower rates of intervention compared to standard models of care including lower rates of induction, medical pain relief and caesarean section

  • Reduction in low APGAR scores (meaning more well babies at birth)

  • Better long-term breastfeeding rates

  • Improved levels of satisfaction for the birthing person and their family

  • Reduction in Post Natal Depression

Our midwives are trained and registered medical professionals with a focus on individualised care.

We bring not just knowledge and experience, but most importantly love and care to your pregnancy, birth and postnatal care. No matter whether you choose to birth at home, with a private obstetrician or in a public hospital, we can be by your side as an experienced support person and advocate.

Antenatal, Postnatal and Birthing Support

Midwife Services
  • Current research shows us that homebirth for healthy women & babies is safe and is associated with less unnecessary intervention. If you choose this care model, our midwives will care for you throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum. The midwives will provide individualised support, expert clinical care and will have all of the equipment needed to ensure a safe birthing environment. Following the birth, they will assist in the early transition to postpartum & continue their care throughout the fourth trimester until the end of the postnatal period at seven weeks. During the course of your labour if you choose to transfer to hospital care due to personal preference or arising complexities, your midwife can continue being a support person for you.

  • If you would like to birth in hospital, our midwives can be a supportive and knowledgeable birth partner. Our midwives do not have admitting rights to hospitals as they are employed by you as opposed to certain hospitals, which means that they will not provide clinical care in these settings. However, they will be with you as your advocate, be a known and trusted person in the birth room and will provide support to you and your partner. They can help to bridge a gap between you and a clinical setting that you may not be familiar with by working collaboratively as part of your birth team.

  • Did you know that our midwives can still care for you during your pregnancy even if you prefer to not access birth support? This can be done either with MAMA ‘sharing’ your care if you are eligible and booked into certain hospitals such as Monash Medical Centre, The Royal Women’s and Sunshine hospitals. If you are accessing care with a different provider, you can still have additional antenatal visits with a MAMA midwife. This can beautifully complement the standard care and give you more time to explore your pregnancy & have space to gain insight, education and extra care from a midwife who is able to provide individualised (not policy driven), evidence-based care.

  • Whether you are accessing our MAMA midwives during pregnancy and birth, or simply looking for more support after your baby has joined you earthside – we can help. Our midwives can visit you in the comfort of your own home for those early visits with your new baby, and can progress to visits in our practice space so you might also meet more parents in your community. Postnatal care can be accessed for the first 6 weeks after meeting your baby – ensuring that you feel supported & informed during a huge life transition.

  • Unfortunately, we know that 1:3 women and birthing people are describing their birth experiences are traumatic. That is why at MAMA we believe that the way people birth matters & we care about how people are made to feel during these life altering moments.

Whether you describe your birth experience as traumatic or empowering, it can still be beneficial to explore your experiences with a professional who is educated and committed to providing a safe space for you to do so. Birth debriefing can be a starting point towards being able to understand, process and integrate your birth experience. This can help support healing over time or simply provide a sense of clarity on parts of birth that you may not have fully digested.

  • We believe that women & birthing people know how to instinctively birth and raise their babies, but we also know that people like to feel informed and mentally prepared for huge life events. Our team of registered midwives and lactation consultants offer a range of education classes that are based on evidence and physiology. We can guide you through comprehensive birth education, preparing for a planned caesarean, approaching your VBAC with less fear, exploring the fourth trimester, learning to breastfeed and practicing skills such as infant first aid. Our independent classes are not influenced by any policies, and are held in small groups which means you also begin building your community support and parenting village with like-minded people.
