MAMA has leased our Kensington clinic from Melbourne City Council for the past decade.
We recently found out that this building is one of four that the council are considering divesting, after community consultation. Melbourne City Council has indicated that if the decision is made to divest the property, it intends to begin the process to sell the Kensington site in October. We understand that this will be a lengthy process as they first need to change the zoning of the building. This part of the process will likely take over a year.
On Friday 22nd July Jan and Kelly had a meeting with The Lord Mayor Sally Capp to find out ways in which we can prevent the council from selling this property.

MAMA would like to mention that we are still taking new clients, for both midwifery care and our allied health services. If the building is sold, there will be at least two years to facilitate a move to a new location. We don’t anticipate that services will be interrupted at all during that time.
