I have a spare 30 seconds between baby naps and would like to take this opportunity to share how wonderful MAMA has been to me and my 3 week old baby, Ellie.
I came to MAMA at 7 weeks pregnant in January this year.
I was severely anxious after having experienced a blighted ovum in September last year.
I was supported without question, invited to come in any time I needed, was made to feel warm and welcomed every time I entered the clinic. I actually dont feel the word ‘clinic’ does MAMA justice as it insinuates a cold, sterile environment which MAMA is certainly not.
MAMA is a warm, friendly community area where you end up feeling at home.
Where else would you go where the admin girls know your name and welcome you with a knowing smile?!
Then there’s the midwives; not only do you get to know your midwife personally and professionally but they also work as a tight knit team. When my midwife was unable to see me on the odd occasion, another midwife quickly stepped in to support me and I truly felt as though they knew me without needing to build rapport from scratch. How nice is it for someone just to know about you and your pregnancy without you needing to explain yourself over and over again?
The allied health professionals available at MAMA are also a great attribute of the service. I got to know the Chiro, masseuse and yoga teacher well. They made my pregnancy experience more comfortable & enjoyable.
Last but not least, I want to mention my midwife Marita.
Marita saw me through my highs & lows, through my barely a bump phase to feeling like a whale.
Marita held my hand when I needed it and helped normalise my situation when I needed to be re grounded as a first time parent.
It is so important to have the right people there for you during your baby’s birth. Marita was everything I thought she would be.
She knew what I wanted and needed without me needing to say. She supported me & my husband with an experience that we had never been through or had any idea what it would be like. And she did it exactly as I needed her too.
She literally held my hand when I needed her, advocated for me when I needed to find my voice amongst the moaning & pushing, and most importantly never judge any of my decision making. She believed in me and my body’s strength to birth my baby beyond what I believed of myself.
I cannot thank Marita and MAMA Services enough for giving me and my baby the support we needed in the most pivotal moments of our lives.
My gratitude is eternal.
Also, a thank you to Alex, the student midwife who followed my pregnancy and travelled a significant distance to be at the birth. I hope it was a great learning experience for you.
Lots of love, Vicki xxx
